[one_half]Historic St. Mary’s City wants you to participate in the discovery of the African American story in St. Mary’s City. There are a number of opportunities for you to be an active participant in our research, preservation efforts, and other community-related events that we hold regularly at Historic St. Mary’s City. We have partnered with a number of community organizations to ensure that community input is a part of everything we do in our African American interpretive program, and we want you to be a part of this partnership.¬†Below are a number of opportunities for you to not only learn about the African American past, but to be an active member in producing it.

Share Your Story

Researchers at Historic St. Mary’s City are currently curating oral histories, documents, or photographs related to the African American story in St. Mary’s City and its surrounding communities. We want to work with you to ensure that your stories, documents, and photos are preserved and protected. Build Your Family Tree

Are you descendant of a former enslaved or tenant laborer at Historic St. Mary’s City? We are currently conducting¬†genealogical¬†research to find the descendants of the African Americans who lived and worked at St. Mary’s Manor during the 19th century. Help Preserve the Duplex Quarter

Historic St. Mary’s City has recently received funding to help preserve the still standing duplex slave and tenant quarter. These funds will go towards repairing the quarter and turning it into a physical exhibit about the lives of those who lived and worked in the building. HSMC will be hosting a number of community activities so that you can participate in this project. Please fill out this contact form if you are interested in participating.
